Advancing Housing Options for Virginia’s Middle-Income Workers

Communities across Virginia have seen recent economic development projects result in an increased demand for housing in those regions. These new jobs result in increased pressure on local housing markets. The lack of programs that support the development of homes attainable to middle-income households, leads to an increasing gap in the housing supply to support this segment of the market.

In November 2024, Virginia Housing announced a new opportunity to partner with communities that will open more doors across the Commonwealth. This program will accelerate the creation of new, affordable housing for middle-income Virginians in developments within a short drive of new job centers.

The first round of awards were announced in May 2025 with the second round announced in December 2025.
