What's in a Rental Application?
Before renting a property, the landlord or property management company will ask you to submit an application. Landlords are looking for tenants who pay their rent on time, take care of the property and follow all lease terms. They may also run a credit check, a background check and a criminal record check.
The first step to renting a property is to get an application, read through the instructions and follow them exactly. Whether you fill out a paper application or complete one online, make sure you do the following to help you obtain the rental home you want:
- Answer all questions completely and honestly.
- Take your time and never skip a question. If you need more time or need clarification, make sure to ask.
Common application components
- First name, middle name and last name
- Social Security number
- A photo ID (identification such as driver’s license, military ID, etc.)
- Date of birth
- List/names of other occupants who will be living with you
- Current and previous addresses
- Phone number
- Email address
- Income verification (ex. pay stub, bank statement)
- Vehicle information for parking spot purposes
- Pet information
After your application is complete, you will have to sign the application and any other related documents. You’ll submit your application with any fees associated and wait to hear if you have been approved.
