Learn How Virginia Housing Can Support Your Efforts at Community Impact Sessions
March 30, 2026Virginia Housing recently hosted a series of Community Impact Sessions, bringing together local governments, housing nonprofits and community leaders to discuss ongoing efforts to expand affordable and workforce housing in Virginia. A final Community Impact Session will be held virtually on Thursday, April 16 from 2 – 3:15 p.m.
Held in six locations across Virginia – Kilmarnock, Chesapeake, Warrenton, Lexington, St. Paul and South Boston – each event included presentations on Virginia Housing’s programs and how each can support community-driven housing initiatives.
Partners from across the state shared that they often face similar challenges, emphasizing the impact of limited housing supply while also highlighting the need for support with infrastructure projects. Capacity building for emerging housing-focused organizations and access to mortgage loans in rural areas were also prominent topics. Virginia Housing offers a range of resources that help address these concerns, including predevelopment loans, capacity building grants and our Mobile Mortgage Offices.
Representatives from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission and LISC Virginia also shared about their housing-related efforts at select sessions. Each session also provided time for attendees to ask questions and share updates on their projects and needs.
“We want partners to know that we're ready to meet them where they are,” said Virginia Housing Strategic Housing Officer Luke Tate. “Whether it’s a group we have worked with for a long time or a potential new collaboration, sitting down and hearing about the challenges and opportunities in their communities helps us make sure our programs are useful and impactful. We take feedback and requests to heart.”
